THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Are you ready to experience Italy and its culture, meet people from around the world, and work with Italian children? Apply now!

The application process is in two parts. The first part entails completing the application and sending in your complete application packet by April 1st 2010. The application deadline for the August orientation is July 1st 2010. Please ensure that you carefully read the application guide as you fill out the forms and compile the necessary documents. We will be in touch with you via e-mail after receipt of your application. Please ensure your correct, up-to-date email address is on your application or contact us if it changes after you have sent the packet. If you have not heard from us within two weeks of posting your application, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The second part entails completion of the Distant Learning Course. Once we have received your application, prospective applicants will be invited by e-mail to proceed to this next step. You have up to two weeks to complete it. Applicants who successfully complete the course will be invited to attend one of the four- or five-day intensive TEFL Introductory Courses (Orientation).

The application deadline for the first three orientations is April 1st 2010. The application deadline for the August orientation is July 1st 2010.

Please compile the documents as listed below and carefully follow the given guidelines. In order to be considered for a position, you must send in a complete application packet:
  • A completed ACLE Tutor application form.
  • Two work/character references, preferably on ACLE’s reference form or on official letterhead. Referees should be previous employers (not friends or family) or supervisors of any volunteer work. A letter of reference from your college/university instructor is also acceptable.
  • A copy of your CV (resume) in the UE Curriculum Vitae approved format. Click here to download the template.
  • A scan or photocopy of the details of your passport
  • Two passport photographs with your full name written on the back (It is mandatory that they are passport photographs and not cut-out snapshots.)
  • If you come from a European Union country, you must provide a photocopy of your EHI Card. If you are from a non-European Union country, you must have your own full-coverage travel insurance policy that covers you while you are abroad and provide proof of it. ACLE’s insurance policy covers you for accidents related to camp activities that occur during camp hours. You may also want to take out an insurance policy that covers you in cases of lost or stolen items and flight cancellation. (If you are planning to purchase insurance upon being accepted into the programme, please stipulate this on your application.)
  • Visual information that tells us more about you. The visual material must include photographs of you doing various activities, e.g. working, volunteering, doing hobbies, tutoring, playing sports, interacting with children. A couple of craft examples are also acceptable as additional material. EU-compatible CDs and DVDs are acceptable.

Application Guidelines

  1. Nationality refers to the country or countries in which you hold citizenship. It does not refer to your ethnic background or ancestral roots.
  2. Please provide your permanent address as tutors will receive their Introduction to TEFL certificate there.
  3. Please ensure that your e-mail address is current and keep us posted of any changes.
  4. ACLE has a company policy regarding friends who apply together. The policy states that we are unable to guarantee that friends will be placed at the same camps. You therefore need to be independent of each other. Requests to keep friends together will unfortunately not be accepted.
  5. City Camps, Summer Camps and High School Campuses happen at different times throughout the summer, and work at either type of camp may be offered to you during your period of availability. At City Camps, tutors are hosted by Italian families. You therefore need to be prepared for this living arrangement. These families will open their home to you and ensure that all of your needs are met. They will provide a safe, welcoming environment—and probably overfeed you. Most tutors have built lifelong relationships with their host families and warmly remember this part of their Italian experience.
  6. The Catholic religion has a strong presence in Italian life. Most families consider themselves to be Catholic even if they are non-practicing. While being hosted by an Italian family, you will not be required to participate in any religious rituals. In addition, a few tutors may be hosted in convents, but the same holds true. It is essential that you are comfortable living and working in a Catholic environment.

Please double-check that you have read the guidelines and compiled all of the requested material and post your completed pack to the address below.
