Notes on Camp
On your first day of camp you may be asked to come in earlier (unless you have made the preparations the day before) to put up flags and streamers, made a welcome sign, make a daily schedule, blow up balloons, make big classroom lists so the kids can see who their tutor is when they arrive and anything else you can do to make the first day of camp start with huge success. The first day will set the mode for camp for the days to come. The enthusiasm and energy will carry on through the remaining days of the camp.
If your camp starts at 9am then please be there at 8.30am. You can do your last minute preparations for your class, get your first activity ready, discuss with your fellow tutors who is going to run the morning warm up etc and most importantly meet and greet the children as they arrive along with their parents.
Whilst at camp it is imperative that you sit with the children during their meals and chat to them. e.g. How are you ? Are you having fun ? What have we got for lunch today ? Can you pass the water? If your group of children have “done your head in” then swap with another tutor. It is after all an English camp!
Break time at camp, whether it be morning tea, “merenda”, lunch or afternoon tea, tutors must be with the children. Yes, you can go and have a coffee / tea, cigarette (AWAY FROM THE CHILDREN) on a rotating system. While a few tutors have a mini break the others NEED to be watching the children. Join in with them while they are playing soccer or volleyball. It’s a good way to interact with them outside the classroom. Share the fun around!
