About the Job… While at Camp

  • Do I have to mind the children during breaks ?

Yes, the children need to be looked after AT ALL TIMES! If you need to take a break, go to the toilet, have a cigarette please insure that there are other tutors watching your children. Set up a rotating system where you can all have 5 minutes to do your things at your first camp meeting. Minding children is culturally correct. Not minding children is culturally wrong and produces negative consequences.

  • Can I have a cigarette or take a rest during break-time ?

Yes, you can go and have a cigarette during the allocated CAMP break times AS LONG AS there are other tutors watching the children! You will need to discuss where you can go to have a cigarette with your camp director. Even though parents and teachers smoke in front of the children, ACLE does not wish to promote this habit.

  • Do I have to change the way I speak ?

Yes. You have to slow down your speech, articulate all your syllables, use simple words, repeat, use hands to explain what you are saying – pretend you are speaking to deaf people.
