About the Job.. Things to know
- Things to consider bringing to Camp:
- Italian children love stickers! Having fun stickers such as stars or smiley faces to put on their work is a great way encourage them.
- Consider bringing photos, postcards or any information about you, your country or your culture. The host families and children love hearing about it. In addition, you may decide to host an International Day at your Camp so having these items on hand will prove valuable.
- Can I behave as I please when I’m not working at Camp?
No! While at Camp and away from Camp you will be noticed. If you are in a little village the locals will know who you are. You are not only representing ACLE as a foreign Tutor but also your home country.
- Is knowledge of Italian important ?
No! ACLE Camps are full immersion camps in English. It is not imperative that you know Italian. You will soon pick up the essentials once in Italy.
- Will I be able to save some money ?
Yes you will. In the past ACLE used to pay its Tutors weekly. Most Tutors would then spend all their money in various ways, food, drink, clothes, etc and at the end of the summer have NO MONEY. Some felt uncomfortable about carrying their wages with them. The Tutors themselves come up with the idea of receiving pocket money at the end of each week while the office holds onto the balance of their money which is then paid to them at their last Camp.
Is there laundry and Internet facilities?
Yes, there are laundry facilities available to you to wash your clothes etc. Pack practically so you have enough clothes to hold you over if you need to wait a day or two before washing your clothes. There are Internet cafe’s all over Italy, however, in very small villages you not find access. If you are staying with a host family they may have the Internet at home. It is important that you ask permission before using the computer and Internet and not stay on it for long periods of time at a cost to the family.
